Tarrasque.io v0.28.0: Player Controls

Hi everyone! 👋 Lots more player functionality to take the load off your hands in this release! Enjoy!

What's new:

  • Players can now draw lines and shapes with the Draw tool and the Shape tool respectively! That's less work for you as a DM!
  • When in combat, players will now only be able to move their tokens if it's their turn. It's still free-range when out of combat.
  • Also, players can now edit the HP of creatures they control directly from the Combat Tracker!

  • You can now choose to share an individual dice roll to chat without committing to sharing all of your dice rolls.

  • Chat history can now be deleted. To do that, just click the icon at the top right of the Chat panel.

Improvements:

  • Updated the keyboard & mouse shortcuts overlay for players since they now have access to more options!
  • Changed the way that the Draw tool eraser works - it should now behave more reliably for removing drawn lines.

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed an issue with chat messages appearing in the wrong order after a refresh.

Tarrasque.io v0.27.0: Public Dice Roll Sharing & Chat

Hi everyone! Today's release brings the long-awaited public dice rolls, a chat system, a few more QoL improvements, and a couple of bug-fixes. Enjoy!

What's new:

  • Public dice roll sharing & Chat. Now everyone can see who rolled what and when! And you can now chat with your friends straight from Tarrasque.io! The chat is campaign-wide, and as such will persist when you switch between maps.

  • Show GM Dice Rolls to players. Fudging rolls is a thing, so this is off by default, but I know a lot of you are huge believers in sharing your rolls with your players. Simply toggle on this feature in your campaign settings and you're good to go!

Improvements:

  • The chat panel listens to the keybind "C", which was previously used by the Combat Tracker. The Combat Tracker will from now on listen to "T".
  • The search field is now automatically focused when you open a panel, in order to make it easier to find what you're looking for! (you can press Escape to quickly unfocus the search field)

  • Navigation and panels are now slightly faded so that they don't completely cover what's going on behind them on the map.
  • The combat tracker header is now always shown in Player and Present views.
  • Added icons in the keyboard/mouse shortcuts.

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where searching for battle maps in the app would also show you maps from other campaigns.
  • Fixed a bug where clearing all the shapes on a map would allow you to undo the action but not redo it.

Tarrasque.io v0.26.0: New Colors, Terry, & QoL Improvements

Hi there! I'm about to start work on dice roll sharing, but before I do, here's a new quality-of-life update! Enjoy!

What's New:

  • New colour scheme and fonts. A whole new set of dark mode and light mode colours. The text should be more visible now in both modes, and there are a couple of new fonts to give the app a more distinct look! Also, dark mode is darker, and light mode doesn't burn your eyes out anymore.
  • Terry the Tarrasque is here! Finally have a logo that isn't just text! Terry was initially a command-line tool I wrote to help me do some admin tasks, so I'm glad he gets to be seen for his contributions! 😂

Improvements:

  • Made the colour picker faster, and updated its interface to be more minimalistic. Also, added some commonly-used colours at the bottom - you'll be able to customize these soon!

  • You can now switch between Draw tool brush and erase modes by tapping its hotkey (4), much like you can with the Shape tool.
  • Made the "Clear All" icon different from the "Delete" icon so that it's clearer that this action will delete all shapes/drawings.
  • When hovering over a Fog of War resize handle, your mouse cursor will now switch to the Resize cursor to indicate that you can drag the circle to resize. This should alleviate issues where you might accidentally move a FoW area.
  • Token markers can be hovered while using the Pan tool. Now you don't have to switch to the Select tool to hover (or attempt to memorize) every icon to know what it means!
  • Made the stat block opaque for consistency with the rest of the UI.
  • Removed the ability to change the background of a token that uses an image. It had no effect anyway! The feature still remains for tokens without an image.

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed a bug where drawn shapes would start at the top left corner of the closest square. They should now start at the corner closest to your mouse cursor.
  • Fixed a bug where drawing a circle by dragging to the left didn't work as expected.

Tarrasque.io v0.25.0: Snap to Grid for Area of Effect

Snap to grid and resizing for shapes is finally here! I swear this feature took longer than multiplayer to implement 🤯️. I hate maths 😁️. Enjoy!

New features:

  • Snap to Grid for Area of Effect. New shapes will now automatically snap to the grid when drawn!

  • Resize Shapes. You can now finally resize circles and rectangles! Triangle resizing should be coming in the next update too :)
  • Mobile Web App. Tarrasque.io can now be installed on your phone or tablet! Open Tarrasque.io on your browser, click the browser menu icon, and click "Add to Home Screen". This will add a shortcut to your home screen that will launch Tarrasque.io as a standalone app!

Improvements:

  • Shapes can now be selected and moved using the Select tool as opposed to the Shape tool. The Shape tool is reserved for just drawing shapes.
  • You can now draw a shape inside another shape since the Shape tool doesn't select underlying shapes.
  • After drawing a shape, you'll automatically be switched to the Select tool so that you can continue with selecting it.
  • You can now draw Fog of War areas and Area of Effect shapes outside the map boundaries. This should help with hiding areas more easily and not needing to draw shapes elsewhere before moving them where you want.

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed a bug with the request timing out when importing monsters and spells via JSON/XML.

Tarrasque.io v0.24.0: Campaign Settings & Map Grouping

Major update alert! Lots of dashboard goodies and some quality-of-life updates! Enjoy!

New features:

  • Campaign settings. The Combat Settings modal was getting a bit crowded with settings that weren't exclusive to combat. Also, depending on your playstyle, you may have had to remember to turn some settings on/off whenever you created a new map. These settings now get set on the Create/Update Campaign modal and apply to all your maps!*

  • Maps grouped by campaign. Have more than one campaign? This update groups campaign maps on the dashboard together so you never get lost in all the noise! Oh, and you can collapse maps of any campaign to make it easier to find what you're looking for!

  • Sharing indicator. No need to open up the Share modal to find out if your players have access to one of your maps - this icon will let you know straight away!

Improvements:

  • Appropriately-sized player maps. Considering that players don't see a thumbnail of the map, there was a lot of wasted space. This update is here to fix that.

  • Sort maps on the dashboard. You could search and filter on the dashboard before, but not sort. Well, now you can.

  • Dynamic loading. Both the app and the dashboard now load modals and other dependencies on-demand, as opposed to bundling them all together. This means that the app is about 50% smaller, and as such, even faster!

*: In order to migrate Combat Settings from each map to the campaign-level, I had to write a script that goes through all of your maps and figures out what settings your maps had in common. The script tried its best to retain the most-often enabled settings, but it may have not worked well in some scenarios. I advise you to check your campaign settings to confirm!

Tarrasque.io v0.23.2

A few more bug-fixes in this update to make things work as smooth as butter again! Enjoy!

Improvements:

  • Selected tokens will now appear highlighted on the Combat Tracker. Previously, this was only for hovered tokens.
  • Position and zoom will now be reset when switching maps in order to keep the behaviour consistent with doing the same from the dashboard.
  • Selected tool will also be reset when switching maps as you'll most likely switch to the Pan tool anyway when doing so.

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed an issue with the Delete/Backspace key on Firefox which would take you to the previous page when deleting a token.
  • Fixed a bug with players being able to see and edit the adventurers of other players.
  • Fixed a bug with the Share modal on the dashboard not saving changes properly.
  • Fixed an issue where newly-added tokens would appear in other maps after switching to them during the same session.
  • Fixed a bug with logged-in users being able to access maps of a campaign they're not part of without a password.
  • Fixed an issue on the dashboard where the map would flicker when toggling share access.

Tarrasque.io v0.23.1

Quick update for improving immersion at the table, plus a few bug fixes! Enjoy!

Improvements:

  • Tokens now animate when their position, dimensions, or rotation changes for viewers other than the person who made the change. (you can test it out on your own by opening another tab with Present mode)

  • Campaigns that you own now have a different emblem colour to separate them from campaigns which you are a player of.

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed a bug with Combat Tracker not popping up when pressing "C" in Player View.
  • Fixed a bug with battle maps not being hidden in real-time for players when disabling sharing.
  • Fixed a bug with assets flashing when moving tokens.
  • Fixed an issue with storage usage not updating correctly when changing the user avatar.
  • Fixed overflowing images in the user avatar section.

Tarrasque.io v0.23.0: Edit Assigned Creatures for Players

Hi everyone! 👋 Tons of editing features for the Player View in this release, which means less work for you as a DM! Enjoy!

New features:

  • Players now have access to the Adventurers and Monsters panels and can edit creatures they control! To avoid metagaming, players can't see any creatures they don't control.

Player View

  • Players can now right-click tokens they control to view their stat block.

  • Players can now click tokens they control to pop up the bottom menu to edit Markers, corner style, and token background colour.

Improvements:

  • Adventurer DM Notes are now only visible to the DM.

  • The Adventurers and Monsters panels now update in real-time like the rest of the application! Multi-task to your heart's content.

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where multiple combatants of the same adventurer would have different HP - these now sync together.
  • Fixed an issue with changing an adventurer's HP didn't propagate those changes to their respective combatants.
  • Fixed a bug where you could switch to the Select tool in Present view when middle-clicking the map without a way to switch back to the Pan tool.

Tarrasque.io v0.22.1

Hi everyone! This release includes a couple of fixes for rotating tokens, iOS device compatibility and performance fixes, and a new version notification! Enjoy!

Improvements:

  • You will now be notified when a new version of the app is available! This should solve a lot of issues with backwards-incompatible updates when you have a tab of the app already open.

  • Changed the token rotation handle to scale with the token dimensions, in order to avoid it being hidden behind the resize handles.

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed a bug on iOS devices where the grid and shapes would get misaligned after switching back from another tab/app.
  • Fixed an issue where tokens refused to save rotation preferences on gargantuan maps.
  • Fixed an unhandled error for Firefox on iOS devices which caused the bug report modal to pop up.

Tarrasque.io v0.22.0: Rotate Tokens

New year, new update! Today's release brings a lot of goodies like rotating tokens, a faster way to switch between the Pan and Select tools, and more! Happy new year and enjoy!

New features:

  • Rotate tokens. You can now rotate tokens on the map by 15-degree angle intervals. Oh, and so can your players!

Improvements:

  • Middle-click to move the map. You can now move the map by holding down middle-click to switch to the Pan tool temporarily. This currently only works when using the Select tool. I'm looking into ways to make this possible for the other tools, as well as a way to implement this on touch devices.
  • Upload progress. When uploading a new image, a progress bar will show at the top of the page indicating the upload progress.
  • Changed the label for the "Players" multi-select for Adventurers and Monsters to "Controlled By" to make it clearer as to what it does.
  • Updated Keyboard/Mouse Shortcuts and related tooltips.
  • Shortened time to first-load on the dashboard and added data loading indicators.

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed an issue with transparent battle map images showing the app background behind them. This will now show the theme background instead.
  • Fixed an issue where gargantuan images would fail to upload.
  • Fixed a bug where right-clicking a token while another token's actions menu was open would move the first token's menu to the new cursor location.
