Table Field Validation

Today we're happy to announce that we've rolled out validation for fields in tables. It's a small thing but has a big impact. You can now do the same validations in a table that you do everywhere else in a form. We hope that makes your work just that much easier. Cheers!

Disable Submissions

We've added a small feature we call "Disable Submissions" which does exactly as advertised. When you click into "Form Settings" above the form builder, you'll find a new checkbox down at the bottom that looks like this:

When you check that box, it will immediately stop all incoming submissions, even if there are submitters with saved form drafts who haven't submitted yet. We know there are Build customers who have events and other limited access forms that need a hard stop of some kind. Well this feature should serve you well.

Submitters will see two alerts, based on their situation:

  1. If they have the link for the form and submissions are already disabled, they'll see this:
  2. If they've already started a form and saved it and then the submissions get disabled, they will see this:

We hope you'll find this feature useful. Thanks!

Your “Favorite” New Feature?

Happy Tuesday! And with that, we announce a feature that will help tame the big list of apps. We've rolled out Favorites to the Build Home Screen!

To make an app your very favorite-est, just check the "Favorite" at the bottom of the app display panel on the home page and save it:

When you do, it will be added to a "My Favorites" section at the top of the Home Screen. We hope you'll find this as useful as we do!

Drafts in Document List

This is a small feature but has a big impact on reporting in Build. Until now, we didn't show draft documents in the Build Document List. A big reason for this was privacy. We knew our customers wanted this but we had to make sure the privacy was done right. Well we're happy to announce this feature is now live and we've addressed the privacy concerns in a way that should make everyone happy. 🤞

Some notes on this feature

  • You get one chance - You can only enable document drafts at the first publish of an app. This is a one-shot decision. The reason for this is that we didn't want people to be able to turn this feature on later once drafts are saved without the submitter knowing about it.

  • Only on Save - A draft is only created when the user clicks "Save." Before that, the document doesn't exist to anyone but the submitter.
  • The submitter is alerted - When this feature has been enabled for an app, the submitter is notified when they go to save the document. This lets them know that administrators will be able to read their content.

  • Drafts are not shared - When you share the data from "App A" with "App B", the drafts in App A are not available.

With the addition of this feature, you'll now have a clearer picture of where submitters are in the process. You will no longer wonder if people have started filling out a form or not.

New Link Gadget and Headless Integrations

We're spreading a little love today on Valentine's Day with two new updates to Kuali Build:

Link Gadget

Form submitters can now share a link on a form. Simply drag and drop the Link gadget onto you form to make that available. More information found here.

Headless Integrations

When using the Data Lookup (Single Item) gadget on your form, you now have the ability to hide the integration gadget on your form while still making other auto-filled gadgets visible. More information found here.

Link to Documents in Notification Steps

Kuali Build now saves links to your documents behind the scenes in the system metadata.

Not technical and wondering what all this gobbledygook means for you? You can now use the Link to Document variable in a Notification step or on your form to allow a user to easily link to the document. See this guide for more information on metadata that Kuali Build captures

New Clothes!

Happy New Year folks! And with this comes a new set of UI clothes for Build. We've needed a better list/table design throughout Build for a long time.

**Clarification: When we're talking about list/table design here, we're not talking about our spiffy new Table Gadget. We're talking about other areas in the system that show lists or tables. For example, the Document List, Submissions, Action List, History, etc.

While we were at it, we updated some elements that will make your apps easier to use. Here are the things we're updating today:

  • New list/table design with better contrast and a higher data density (see Clarification note above)
  • New "canvas" design with a simpler tabbed interface that allows you to navigate among different areas in your app
  • New easier-to-use date picker
  • New permissions page with clearer buttons and fields

If you're a technical user and want some inside baseball, just know that we've removed all traces of Google's Material UI which had some usability issues. Usability issues make us sad. Today, we're happier.

Enjoy!

Here's to a brighter, more contrast-y 2022!

This is how you digitally *nudge* someone

Today we've rolled out a new feature to help move workflows along faster. If a workflow is stuck because you're waiting on someone, you can now click a button in the workflow status to resend the notification to them like this:

When clicked, it will re-send a notification to everyone in that step.

It's a small thing but will give Build administrators even more control over their workflows. Here's the documentation.

We hope you enjoy this enhancement, just in time for the holiday season. I feel a little like Santa, even if I look more like Krampus.🎄
