Choose Which Trainer Will Appear on the Course Overview

You can now choose a specific trainer to appear on a course overview for your learners to see!

Until now, it hasn’t been clear which workspace trainer will appear on the course overview, as previously you needed to add a Group trainer to a group, otherwise no trainer would display here.

Now you are able to choose a specific trainer to always appear on the course overview screen. If you want to keep using Group trainers, leave this set to automatic.

Note, if you don’t want any of your trainers to appear here, use the visibility settings to hide this page element altogether.

📹 Force Learners to Watch YouTube & Vimeo Videos

You can now force learners to watch an entire YouTube or Vimeo video, before a video screen is marked complete!

The addition of support for Vimeo and YouTube videos is a welcome improvement to the enforce video completion feature. Prior to this release, this functionality was limited to uploaded videos only.

Enforce video completion is only available on Premium plans. To find our more about this feature, check out the original release post here.

🧭 Sidebar Navigation Changes

We’ve just released a change to the trainer sidebar navigation to cater for the introduction of our latest feature release — Catalogs.

What’s changed?

Collapsable sidebar

The sidebar can be collapsed to provide more horizontal space. Coassemble remembers your choice, so if you close it, the next time you visit it will remain closed.

Create section

We’ve added a new Create section that contains both Courses, and Catalogs. The course page will remain the default screen, so every time you enter your Coassemble workspace, you’ll still land on the courses page.

Chat / Support button

Our chat support button has now moved into the sidebar from the bottom-right-hand-corner of the page.

Page header

We’ve made a significant cosmetic change to the page header in order to provide more vertical space on most pages in your Coassemble workspace.

Part of this change required us to move the Grade button, and the Learn button (only visible if you are enrolled in a course), to the sidebar.

Branching Scenario – Improved Visibility for Start and End Scenes

We've made some minor improvements to the Branching scenario screen to make it clearer where your start and end scenes are.

What's changed?

Start scenes

Every Branching scenario requires a start scene. The start scene will always be the first scene in your scenario. Prior to this release it was possible to reorder the scenes which would sometimes result in your start scene being out of order. We've fixed this issue by ensuring that the first scene always remains as the start scene.

End scenes

Every Branching scenario requires at least one end scene, but can contain as many as you like. All scene types except for Feedback popups can be set as an end scene.

The main focus for this release was to make sure our users don't publish a Branching scenario without setting an end scene. This is important because an end scene marks the screen as complete, and without one, learners will not be able to complete the course.

To make it difficult to do this, we display a warning message that persists until you add your end scene.

In addition we've made it easier to set an end scene by displaying the controls in a more prominent position.

We've also included helpful visual aids to indicate where each end scene resides in your scenes list.

UI Improvements to the Grading Screen

We've just released an update to the grading screen to help improve performance and usability!

What's changed?

You'll notice while using the new grading screen that it feels a lot more performant. By rebuilding the front-end, we've been able to provide noticeable performance improvements.

In addition, we've implemented familiar controls and components that will provide our users with a more cohesive experience across the application.

Legacy grading screen

Although there have been no functionality changes with this release, we've retained the legacy grading screen so that you can switch back to it if you choose. Simply click the 'Switch to legacy grading' button and you'll be sent back to the old experience.

✉️ Set Which Trainer Appears on Invitation Emails

If you're on a premium plan, you can now set the trainer you want to appear on your invitation emails.

By default, the user displayed on an email invite is the user who triggered the invitation by inviting a learner to a course, or a trainer to the workspace. You can leave as is, or choose another option.

These options include:

  1. Automatic — this is the status quo, and depends on who did the inviting.
  2. No trainer  — don’t display any trainer in the email.
  3. Specific trainer — display a trainer you have specified.

👀 New preview-mode toolbar for courses

We’ve introduced a new preview-mode toolbar that gives users control over how they preview the course. Included in this update is the ability to:

  1. Preview the draft or published version of the course
  2. Ignore course settings
  3. Preview the course on multiple devices

Draft / Published version

You can now choose to preview either the draft or published version of the course. A course will have a draft version if you have unpublished changes to any of the course content e.g. lesson or quizzes. The published version of the course is the version that learners can see.

Course settings

By default when previewing a course, all courses settings that can inhibit your ability to properly preview a course have been disabled. These settings include;

  • Course availability dates
  • Course prerequisites
  • Module order
  • Lesson lock-step

If you need to test the course with the settings active, simply enable them by clicking the toggle next to each setting.

Device preview

As part of this release we’ve introduced the ability to preview how your course will appear on different devices. We’ve included 3 options for you to test:

  1. Desktop (default)
  2. Tablet
  3. Mobile

🗑 Batch Delete and Deactivate Users

You can now batch delete and deactivate learners from the users page.

For those of you who’ve found yourself deleting old users one-by-one, you’ll be pleased to know that you can now batch delete users.

Try it yourself by heading over to the Users page and select a number of learners from the learners tab by clicking over the table row and checking the checkbox next to their name. As you do this, you’ll see the batch toolbar appear from the bottom of the page that now includes Deactivate and Delete buttons.

GDPR and user deletion

As part of GDPR Coassemble now permanently deletes all personal identifying information (PII) from the database. If you choose to delete users from your workspace (where your workspace is the only workspace they are a member of), their PII will be unrecoverable, along with all of their results and progress. You will not be able to reverse this action.

If any of your users is a member of another workspace, their PII will remain until they’ve been removed from all workspaces.

Deactivating users

If you need to keep a learner's records, but want to remove their access to your workspace, you should deactivate them rather than delete them. A deactivated user does not count towards your user count, and importantly, their user records are stored. You can reactivate a user at any time, and this will restore enrollments, course progress, and user permissions.
