Major Course Improvements for Learners

As promised we've just launched major updates to the way your learners experience courses in Coassemble.

Course navigation

By moving the floating course navigation from the bottom of the screen to the top of the screen we've been able to save valuable screen realestate making it more likely that your learners won't need to scroll to reveal course content.

To accomodate the improved navigation, your company branding, the learner profile, notifications, and announcements have been moved to the sidebar. If your workspace already has a custom favicon it will also appear in the sidebar.

The sidebar menu is now opened and closed from within the screen content container. This alleviates the problem where the menu button would obscure the contents of the menu.

Stylistic improvements

We've implemented a new design approach that threads through every module within a course. This provides a consistent experience, starting from the course overview, to every lesson template, and module.

You'll notice this new design as the friendly rounded corners on the buttons and cards, and a new capsule that contains all of the course content.

Lesson background colors

One of the most notable improvements is how your lesson screen background colours will be displayed. Lesson background colours will now appear behind the content. We wanted to retain the flexibility of making your lessons pop with blocks of colour but in a way that would allow you to retain the integrity of the information displayed to learners. Doing this opens up the possibility of introducing a dark mode for learners in the future, which we feel is important for accessibility.

Checkpoint Navigation and Answer Submission

We've made some exciting changes to the way your learners interact with Checkpoint templates in the Lesson module.

Navigation

Checkpoints now appear as individual questions in the sidebar menu, making it easier for learners to know where they're up to.

Answer submission

Checkpoints now require learners to submit their answers before confirming whether they've got the answer correct. This leads to a less abrupt experience where learners were faced with a feedback pop-up immediately after they've attempted to answer a question.

Enrollment Links for Groups

We've just released Enrollment links for groups!

This means that you can now share a single link that will automatically enroll the recipient into multiple courses.

How do these differ from Enrollment links that you create in a course?

The main differences are as follows:

  • An Enrollment link is automatically created for every group when you need it
  • You can't delete a group Enrollment link
  • Group Enrollment links are accessed from the Users > Groups > Group screen
  • When a learner access a group Enrollment link they are directed to the learner dashboard, instead of directly to a single course

To find out more, check out our help centre article on Enrollment links.

Image Editor Improvements

We've just launched some major improvements to the image editor to make adding images to your courses easier than ever 🎉

So what's new?

Improved cropping functionality

We've spent a lot of time refining our cropping tool so that it crops just the way you intended it to.

More clarity around forced ratios

There are many lesson templates that enforce specific crop ratios for images. We do this to ensure each image is displayed as intended (e.g. not stretched or squashed). It wasn't always clear why, but the improved UI will now let you know when a ratio is enforced, so you choose the image that best suits your design.

Integrated alternative text input

We've integrated the ALT text function into the image editor so that you can add alternative text at the same time you add your image.

Ratio select options

Crop like a pro using the quick ratio select options. No more guessing, no more hoping you've cropped it just right..

Course Templates

Course templates are here!

We've started small by adding 4 common-use course templates to our library that you can use to create courses specifically for your business. These templates include:

  • Company onboarding
  • Remote work policy
  • Social media policy
  • Talking to customers

We hope these templates will be a great starting point for you to create onboarding or policies for your company using Coassemble.

If you have any ideas for additional templates you'd like to see in the library, please let us know and we'll do our best to deliver them!

To check out our course templates, simply click the 'Create course' button on the home screen and choose 'Use a template'.

We've Rebranded Noticeboards As Announcements

We're relaunching the noticeboard feature as Announcements.

Announcements allow you to post single-use messages to groups of learners in a course. Announcements appear as a small popup that appears in the top-right-hand corner of the screen allowing you to post a reminder or an update to the course as the learner works through it.

The functionality is essentially the same with a just a few notable changes:

  1. All announcements will be dismissible, you don’t have the option of making them not dismissible, however, you can pin them to the announcement board if you choose to.
  2. Instead of displaying a background colour to distinguish between the announcement types, you choose a display icon
  3. The announcements are no longer hidden by a menu, they appear in a fixed position at in the top-right-hand corner of the screen when a learner is in a course.

New Inline Editing for the Course Overview

We've updated the course overview editor to create an experience where you can edit the course overview inline, providing a visual reference of how it will look for learners.

A great new feature with the editor is that you can now reposition the course card image to suit the overview screen.

We've also repositioned the video placement so that it's visible to your learners inline and changes to the course title and descriptions are auto saved.

New Course Settings Menu and Reports Modal

In an effort to simplify courses, we've moved course prerequisites, course notifications, compliance mapping, and the resource folder selector to a new settings menu.

In addition, we've moved the reports tab to a new modal for a snapshot of how your learners are doing in the current course.

We've retired subtopic and topic numbers from lessons

We've retired the fields for adding topic and sub-topic numbers to lessons. For any of our users who use this feature, you simply just need to prefix a number to your topic or screen titles.

In fact, that's exactly what we've done for topic or screen titles that previously used these fields! Yep, we've automatically prefixed these numbers to the titles for you, so there won't be anything for you to do, and nothing changes for your learners — easy!
