🌁 Image Reposition Options for More Screens!

We've just added image reposition options to more of our screen types.

For most places you upload an image in Coassemble, there are no specific rules about what size or ratio your image needs to be. Because of this, you don't need to crop your images, simply add an image, and it will fill or fit the image container.

To provide more control, we've included the ability to position images within the image container. This allows you to focus on a particular part of the image, without having to crop the it which can degrade the image.

This functionality has been added to the following screens:

  • Cover
  • Flashcards
  • Process
  • Tap to reveal
  • Select correct image
  • Timeline
  • Springy list

New Filter Options for Learners

We’ve just introduced new filter options to the learner dashboard to make it easier for learners to find what they are looking for. To achieve this, we’ve made some minor changes to the learner dashboard, and introduced an exciting new filter option we know many of you have been looking forward to!

What’s New?

Finally you can display Folders on the learner dashboard! This new opt-in feature, when switched ON, will allow learners to filter their courses by folder.

To use this feature, simply head over to the Workspace settings page and select the Learner dashboard tab. Switching the 'Allow learners to filter by folder' option ON will make all folders visible to learners. If there are some folders you want hidden, you can choose to display only specific folders.

Note: hiding folders won’t hide courses associated with those folders.

What’s changed?

We’ve replaced the four page tabs; All courses, To do, In progress, and Completed with three new filters — To do, In progress, and Complete.

These 3 filters do the same job as the four tabs, but provide a better experience for your learners learners as they won’t have to switch between the four tabs, and won’t be forced to view all courses, regardless of their status when they come to the dashboard. By default To do and In progress filters are selected.

If you have multiple lessons inside your course, you'll notice a new 'Move screen' option in the context menu for each screen. Simply select this option and choose the lesson you want to the screen moved to.

Note, that you'll only be able to move screens to lessons that exist inside the same course.

🎉 Three 'New' Screens!

In an effort to reduce the effect of choice overload on our users, we’ve consolidated a number of similar screen types into 3 new screens:

  1. Tap to reveal
  2. Process
  3. Springy list

Tap to reveal screen

The Tap to reveal screen encourages your learners to interact with the screen to discover more information about a topic by tapping buttons that can be customized using images, colors and labels.

5 screens have been merged to create the new Tap to reveal screen; Image click, Showcase, Image+, Icon hover, and Side slide.

If you’ve used these screens before, you would have noticed how similar they were. The only difference between them being the interactions, and the layout options available for each. All of them allowed a title, an image, and a description, and in each case the learner needed to ‘Tap to reveal’ the description.

Because of these similarities, we were able to combine them into a single screen type that offered additional layout options. Below is a diagram that demonstrates how they have been combined.

What happens to my existing screens?

All of your existing screens will appear exactly as they had prior to this release. The only noticeable differences will be inside the course creator. The first difference is that they will all be called Tap to reveal screens. The second is related to the Side slide screen. As the new screen type doesn’t allow for circular images, the side slide screen will appear as a legacy version that will remain in that state until it has been edited. Once it has been edited, it will be converted to the new format.

Process screen

The Process screen allows you to display images and descriptions in a gallery format. Good for breaking down a process into smaller steps.

2 screens have been merged to create the Process screen; Steps and Flowchart.

Again, if you’ve used these screens you would have noticed how similar they were. In light of this, it made perfect sense to combine both screens to create a new supercharged screen type that combined all of the layout options of the two former screens. Below is a diagram that demonstrates how they have been combined.

What happens to my existing screens?

Your existing screens appear exactly as they had prior to this release. The only noticeable difference will be inside the course creator, where they will now be labelled Process screens.

Springy list screen

The Springy list screen allows you to display a list of labels that when clicked will reveal more information. Good for things like listing your company values with a short description.

As you may already be aware, the Springy list screen is in fact an existing screen. In this case, we’ve merged the Springy list screen and Text pop screens into a new screen with the same name. These 2 screens provided virtually the same functionality, the key difference being that Text pop allowed you to add an image to the button background.

What happens to my existing screens?

Again, both the Springy list and Text pop screens will appear exactly as they did prior to this release, the main difference being the change of name. If you had created Text pop screens that had labels set to appear on hover, or to appear in front of the image, these screens will appear as legacy screens that will remain in that state until it they have been edited. Once it has been edited, they will be converted to the new format.

Video Screen: Enforce Completion & Custom Thumbails

Following on from our recent update to the Slideshow screen comes similar UI improvements to the Videos screen plus two additional new features:

  1. The ability to force learners to watch an entire video
  2. The ability to add custom thumbnails.

Force learners to watch an entire video

If you're subscribed to one of our Premium plans, you'll now be able to force learners to watch the entire video before the screen is marked as complete.

To use this feature, simply toggle the 'Enforce completion' option ON after you've uploaded your video. You can add this retrospectively by clicking the edit button on each video you want to use this feature for.

Learners who are required to watch an entire video will know they've completed the video once the progress indicator below the video becomes solid. See the example in the image below:

Add custom thumbnails

Yes, you can now add custom thumbnails to any video you've uploaded! This feature is available on all plans.

Progress markers

If you have Progress markers toggled on for your workspace, your learners will now be required to view each slide in the video screen. So if you have multiple videos in the screen, then they must view each slide. Note that this doesn't force them to watch the entire video, just make sure that they've visited each slide.

Other Improvements

As part of this release, we've added all of the UI improvements that we added to the Slideshow screen to the video screen. These include:

  • New white text background container with visibility controls for hiding both the title and description
  • Improved navigation using SmartColor™ color scheming, and built in thumbnails displayed on hover
  • Video thumbnails added to the re-order list
  • Rich text options in the description field

Slideshow Screen Improvements

We’ve made some significant improvements to the Slideshow screen addressing much of the feedback we've received from our amazing users over the last 12 months.

What's changed?

Image controls

New image controls that allow you to make images fit or fill the allocated space for images. You can fine-tune the fitting even further with the ability to reposition the image to appear exactly as you want it.

Captions and description

You asked, we listened! Gone is the compulsory black background for image titles and descriptions. This has been replaced with a standard white background for text, with the ability to hide both the Title and Description if needed.

The description text area now grows infinitely, instead of being contained, allowing you to add as much text as you like. In light of this we were able to include the addition of our rich text editor for descriptions.

Navigation

The image thumbnails have been replaced with our standard navigation indicators with image previews that appear when you hover over each item.

This change has also allowed us to include our SmartColor™ technology that uses your workspace theme color to create the perfect colour scheme!

Progress markers

One of the most significant changes to this screen is the introduction of progress markers. If you have Progress markers switched on for your workspace, your learners will now be forced to view every image in order for the course to be marked as complete.

Image thumbnails added to the reorder list

To help reorder your slides we have now added images to the reorder list.

Changes to Course Cards

We've just launched a number of key changes to the way course cards are displayed on the Trainer dashboard. For a long while now we’ve seen our users struggle to comprehend why course cards use the same image that is displayed on the course overview screen, especially considering they have completely different ratios.

To solve this problem we’ve introduced a new image field specifically for the course card. This means you can now add a completely different image for the course card and course overview screens. The purpose each image is outlined below:

  • The ‘Course card image’ will display on course cards on the dashboard at a 3:2 ratio (and a 1:1  ratio at a small scale where necessary).
  • The ‘Course overview banner image’ will now treated as decoration for your course overview. It won’t display anywhere else.

For existing courses, until you add a new course card image, your course cards and overview screens will continue to share the same image.

To accomodate this change, we need to make some changes to the placement of controls on the cards. Now you can access key controls like share, preview, and learners from the bottom of the card. In addition, we’ll be displaying the name of the folder the course belongs to on the card.

Course Sidebar Changes

Noticed the recent changes to the course sidebar and wondering what that's all about?

The impetus for this change was to improve the experience of navigation a course on mobile for both trainers and learners.

Now accessing the navigation on the sidebar feels seamless — no abrupt page loads or forgetting where you're up to.

Customizable sidebar color

While we were at it, we thought we'd allow our users to customize the color of the sidebar.

To change the color of your sidebar, go to the customize page where you'll find a new section called ‘Appearance’. This section contains everything pertaining to your color scheme and logos, including the new 'Course sidebar' feature.

Other notable changes

  • The new course card image now forms part of the course overview button
  • In the course builder we've grouped the buttons into two distinct areas. The right-side controls all relate to the editing experience; navigating, previewing, publishing the course, while the left-side controls relate to external functionality; enrolling and previewing enrolled learners, accessing reports and settings.
  • The introduction of a new home button for learners to make it more obvious how to get back to the learner dashboard.
