🤔 Are You Still There?

We've just released a change to the way we track learner progress to further improve the accuracy of reporting. Now when a learner is idle for more than 5 minutes, we'll ask them if they are still there, before disconnecting to stop the recording of time spent on the course.

We will also alert learners when their connection is interrupted, and promptly ask them to reconnect so that they don't lose any valuable tracking data.

Customize Enrollment Email Feature Improvements

We've just made a long awaited improvement to the Customize enrollment email feature available on Premium plans. The change allows you to edit the email message sent when you share a Course, a Catalog, or Invite a new user to your workspace. This means you can write a unique message for any course or catalog you share with a learner.

Key points

  • Enrollment email defaults are still set from the customize page, and they will continue to be the default displayed in the email preview. However, the default can be edited before sending a message.
  • Users can edit the email Subject, Message, and Call to Action text whenever they send an email invitation. This feature is available on the course share modal, the catalog share modal, and the users' page share modal.
  • This functionality is accessible to any user with the permission to share a course or catalog

Branching Scenario – Improved Visibility for Start and End Scenes

We've made some minor improvements to the Branching scenario screen to make it clearer where your start and end scenes are.

What's changed?

Start scenes

Every Branching scenario requires a start scene. The start scene will always be the first scene in your scenario. Prior to this release it was possible to reorder the scenes which would sometimes result in your start scene being out of order. We've fixed this issue by ensuring that the first scene always remains as the start scene.

End scenes

Every Branching scenario requires at least one end scene, but can contain as many as you like. All scene types except for Feedback popups can be set as an end scene.

The main focus for this release was to make sure our users don't publish a Branching scenario without setting an end scene. This is important because an end scene marks the screen as complete, and without one, learners will not be able to complete the course.

To make it difficult to do this, we display a warning message that persists until you add your end scene.

In addition we've made it easier to set an end scene by displaying the controls in a more prominent position.

We've also included helpful visual aids to indicate where each end scene resides in your scenes list.

UI Improvements to the Grading Screen

We've just released an update to the grading screen to help improve performance and usability!

What's changed?

You'll notice while using the new grading screen that it feels a lot more performant. By rebuilding the front-end, we've been able to provide noticeable performance improvements.

In addition, we've implemented familiar controls and components that will provide our users with a more cohesive experience across the application.

Legacy grading screen

Although there have been no functionality changes with this release, we've retained the legacy grading screen so that you can switch back to it if you choose. Simply click the 'Switch to legacy grading' button and you'll be sent back to the old experience.

🏞 Name Change for Text With Image Screen

We've just changed the name of the Text with Image screen to better represent how it is used in the platform by the majority of our users. More often than not, our users treat the Text with Image screen as a blank page where they add videos, images, and tables using the Text editor, instead of relying on the image uploader placeholder.

In light of this, we've changed the name of the screen to Blank screen and have removed the image placeholder so that you don't feel inclined to use just an image. You can still add images with the text editor, and align and resize them any way you like.

Image captions

So that there was no reduction in functionality for this screen, we've added support for captions inside our text editor. Now you can add captions to images any where you add an image using our text editor.

Will this effect my existing screens?

This change will not effect any of your existing Text with Image screens. Any images you added previously will remain in place.

♠️ Learner Course Card Changes

Course cards on the learner dashboard have been improved to provide learners the most relevant information at a glance. This includes course status, course title, folder name (if configured) and time estimate. When a learner interacts with the card, more detailed information is revealed such as the course description and navigation buttons.

The size of the cards has been reduced significantly so that learners can see more courses without having to scroll.

To summarise, the new learner cards have the following additions:

  • Folder name (if folders are set to display on the dashboard)
  • Time estimate (if an estimate is set)
  • New progress state indicators displaying the courses current progress state
    • Locked (If course is not available or the course has prerequisites)
    • To do
    • In progress
    • Complete
    • Grade pending
    • Incomplete

🌁 Image Reposition Options for More Screens!

We've just added image reposition options to more of our screen types.

For most places you upload an image in Coassemble, there are no specific rules about what size or ratio your image needs to be. Because of this, you don't need to crop your images, simply add an image, and it will fill or fit the image container.

To provide more control, we've included the ability to position images within the image container. This allows you to focus on a particular part of the image, without having to crop the it which can degrade the image.

This functionality has been added to the following screens:

  • Cover
  • Flashcards
  • Process
  • Tap to reveal
  • Select correct image
  • Timeline
  • Springy list

🎉 Three 'New' Screens!

In an effort to reduce the effect of choice overload on our users, we’ve consolidated a number of similar screen types into 3 new screens:

  1. Tap to reveal
  2. Process
  3. Springy list

Tap to reveal screen

The Tap to reveal screen encourages your learners to interact with the screen to discover more information about a topic by tapping buttons that can be customized using images, colors and labels.

5 screens have been merged to create the new Tap to reveal screen; Image click, Showcase, Image+, Icon hover, and Side slide.

If you’ve used these screens before, you would have noticed how similar they were. The only difference between them being the interactions, and the layout options available for each. All of them allowed a title, an image, and a description, and in each case the learner needed to ‘Tap to reveal’ the description.

Because of these similarities, we were able to combine them into a single screen type that offered additional layout options. Below is a diagram that demonstrates how they have been combined.

What happens to my existing screens?

All of your existing screens will appear exactly as they had prior to this release. The only noticeable differences will be inside the course creator. The first difference is that they will all be called Tap to reveal screens. The second is related to the Side slide screen. As the new screen type doesn’t allow for circular images, the side slide screen will appear as a legacy version that will remain in that state until it has been edited. Once it has been edited, it will be converted to the new format.

Process screen

The Process screen allows you to display images and descriptions in a gallery format. Good for breaking down a process into smaller steps.

2 screens have been merged to create the Process screen; Steps and Flowchart.

Again, if you’ve used these screens you would have noticed how similar they were. In light of this, it made perfect sense to combine both screens to create a new supercharged screen type that combined all of the layout options of the two former screens. Below is a diagram that demonstrates how they have been combined.

What happens to my existing screens?

Your existing screens appear exactly as they had prior to this release. The only noticeable difference will be inside the course creator, where they will now be labelled Process screens.

Springy list screen

The Springy list screen allows you to display a list of labels that when clicked will reveal more information. Good for things like listing your company values with a short description.

As you may already be aware, the Springy list screen is in fact an existing screen. In this case, we’ve merged the Springy list screen and Text pop screens into a new screen with the same name. These 2 screens provided virtually the same functionality, the key difference being that Text pop allowed you to add an image to the button background.

What happens to my existing screens?

Again, both the Springy list and Text pop screens will appear exactly as they did prior to this release, the main difference being the change of name. If you had created Text pop screens that had labels set to appear on hover, or to appear in front of the image, these screens will appear as legacy screens that will remain in that state until it they have been edited. Once it has been edited, they will be converted to the new format.

Slideshow Screen Improvements

We’ve made some significant improvements to the Slideshow screen addressing much of the feedback we've received from our amazing users over the last 12 months.

What's changed?

Image controls

New image controls that allow you to make images fit or fill the allocated space for images. You can fine-tune the fitting even further with the ability to reposition the image to appear exactly as you want it.

Captions and description

You asked, we listened! Gone is the compulsory black background for image titles and descriptions. This has been replaced with a standard white background for text, with the ability to hide both the Title and Description if needed.

The description text area now grows infinitely, instead of being contained, allowing you to add as much text as you like. In light of this we were able to include the addition of our rich text editor for descriptions.

Navigation

The image thumbnails have been replaced with our standard navigation indicators with image previews that appear when you hover over each item.

This change has also allowed us to include our SmartColor™ technology that uses your workspace theme color to create the perfect colour scheme!

Progress markers

One of the most significant changes to this screen is the introduction of progress markers. If you have Progress markers switched on for your workspace, your learners will now be forced to view every image in order for the course to be marked as complete.

Image thumbnails added to the reorder list

To help reorder your slides we have now added images to the reorder list.
