SkyWars: Classic - Balancing Patch

A balancing patch for SkyWars: Classic is now being deployed to all regions.

Thank you to everybody who left feedback, it has been very helpful!

Changes

  • Instant TNT can now be pushed/launched by other TNT
  • Reduced Instant TNT placement cooldown from 1 second to half a second
  • Increased warmup time from 10 seconds to 20 seconds
  • Reduced the chances of potions spawning in chests
  • Reduced the chances of chainmail boots spawning (slightly increasing the chances of other armor spawning)
  • Reduced the number of arrows
  • Opening a vault will now grant 10XP

New Feature

  • Vanilla Projectiles are now enabled in SkyWars: Classic

SkyWars: Projectile Physics Experiment (Custom Server Option)

A new SkyWars version is being deployed to all regions. This update adds a custom server option to enable a new projectile physics experiment.

Developer Note

Our projectile physics have always felt a little off. This update brings our projectiles more in line with vanilla Minecraft.

This should make projectiles feel a lot better, including removing the weird arc that Hive projectiles have when shooting upward.

We want your thoughts on these changes, so we have made this a custom server option. Anyone who plays a game with this setting enabled will be sent a Mailbot survey. So, please let us know your thoughts via that survey or on our Discord.

These changes do not indicate future changes; we only want to gauge the community's feelings/feedback surrounding projectiles.

Version Support Update

As mentioned in our previous update post, due to a recent multiplayer authentication change by Minecraft, players have been unable to join The Hive when playing on versions below 1.20.

As a result of this change, and in the interest of the safety of our players, The Hive has now discontinued support for versions below 1.20.

Whilst we are aware that some players have been able to join on older versions using modified clients, we cannot verify the safety of such modifications, and the files used to achieve this. Continuing to support these versions would encourage players to seek out these methods, and potentially put them at risk of downloading malicious content.

Whilst we regret the way this change was pulled forward, we are now able to fast-track the use of features and blocks released in Minecraft versions newer than 1.18.

Please note we are not accusing any existing modifications and/or clients of being malicious - we are unable to check every such modification, and even if this was possible, we would be unable to ensure that future updates to these modifications remained safe.

Improved In-Game Hat Support

As promised, we are expanding our support for hats in-game. Today, we have deployed an update that adds in-game hat support to the following games:

  • Murder Mystery
  • DeathRun
  • Just Build
  • Block Drop

We hope to add support for more games over time.

Additionally, Just Build contains minor bug fixes related to custom blocks:

  • Added missing wood blocks
  • Fixed placement of custom pillar blocks
  • Better organized the order of custom blocks in the creative menu

Adjustment to Platform-Based Matchmaking

For a better experience on games and regions with lower amounts of players, we have lowered the requirement for Platform-Based Matchmaking from 300 to 200 players. We will continue to monitor queue times to ensure this is a correct balance between gameplay experience and waiting times.

Additionally, we are investigating taking input type (touch, controller, KBM) into account for matchmaking in the near future. This is mainly aimed at making mobile queues fairer.

Our upcoming "region agnostic" update, which enables cross-region gameplay and matchmaking, will future improve the availability of Platform/Input-Based Matchmaking whilst lowering queue times.

The Bridge: Automatic Kit Saving

A much-requested feature for The Bridge is now being deployed slowly across all regions. This update brings an automatic kit-saver to the game.

Automatic Kit Saving

  • Kit items slots are now persistent between rounds and Bridge servers
  • Moving items will automagically store the layout

Kit Changes

  • You now only start with 1 stack of blocks
  • Blocks are regenerated (to a max of 32) on death

Developer note: The block changes are a result of both community feedback, and making the kit editor easier to use. Multiple stacks of blocks can over-complicate a kit layout, so we felt this change would be good to trial to ensure the best kit-editing experience.

We understand this could affect the block economy and are paying close attention. Please leave your feedback on this post or our discord server to help shape the future of The Bridge.

Capture The Flag: Mini-Patch

A mini-patch for Capture The Flag is currently deploying to all regions. This patch focuses on fixing teleporter trapping.

Teleporter Trapping Fix

  • Added a no-build radius around teleporters
  • Added block-decay for nearby blocks around teleporters when a player exits that teleporter

Developer note: We're currently going through all the CTF feedback to create the first balance patch. However, we wanted to address this issue faster as it can impact gameplay heavily. Thank you all for the amazing feedback so far, and keep an eye out for the balance patch coming soon.

The Bridge: Day 1 Balance Patch

A day 1 balance patch is currently being deployed to The Bridge in all regions. As always, we are paying close attention to player feedback.

Gameplay Changes

  • Water now instantly kills (respawns) you
  • You can no longer build below the spawn tube
  • You can no longer build above the pit
  • Your last special item selection is saved between games
  • Nerfed the leap slightly
  • Lowered the build height
  • Added health feedback when a player is hit by an arrow

Bug Fixes

  • Special items selected after game start will no longer apply

Developer note: We understand that the leap is controversial with some players liking it, and others not. We're paying attention to the feedback and will continue to make changes.

We're also aware that there's a large need for editing your kit/hotbar layout. A hotbar editor will be coming soon, in a future patch.

Hive+ Cosmetic Refresh

In the coming week, Hive+ will be updated. The hub titles, avatars, and costume will be replaced with newer, better ones.

Anyone who has already purchased Hive+ will keep the current cosmetics and receive the new ones free of charge when the offer is updated.

As a result, these are the last few days new Hive+ purchases will receive:

  • "The VIBee" Hub Title
  • "The OG" Hub Title
  • "The Supporter" Hub Title

SG Update Fast-Follow!

This is the first set of changes to the new Survival Games update, currently in preview. We're constantly reading player feedback and more changes will come if required.

Balance Changes

Loot

  • Increased rarity of Boomboxes
  • Increased rarity of Activity Trackers
  • Increased rarity of Flares
  • Reduced the stack size of Arrows

Developer note: We understand that bow/arrow mechanics can feel overpowered. We hope we can have a deeper dive into the damage bows do in the future.

Additionally, loot balance is a very tough thing to get just right. We're constantly reviewing game statistics and community feedback. We will make further changes until it feels exactly right.

Teleporters

  • Per-player teleporter cooldown now increased to 15 seconds to deter from teleporter hopping
  • Updated hologram to show remaining cooldown time
  • Spectators have a shorter cooldown

Flares

  • Only one Supply Crate from a flare can now be called in at a time. If a Supply Crate is currently landing, you will be told that the airspace is full.

Hunger [Experimental]

This is an experimental change and will be changing regularly based on player feedback.

  • Increased hunger depletion rate while sprinting by 3.5x

Developer note: We've seen a lot of discussion from the community about hunger mechanics. We agree that hunger is currently a pointless mechanic, and we are starting to change that with this update. Our hopes are these changes will stop infinite running, and provide more of a use for food.

Gravestones

  • When a player dies to the void, the gravestone will now spawn at the feet of the killer.

Developer note: We've seen an increase of players deliberately running in to the void to stop their killer getting loot. We understand this can be frustrating in such a loot-heavy game. We hope this update will fix this.

Chests

  • Removed the ability to destroy a chest with a single punch
  • Added the ability to mine a chest (with an axe, for example)


Misc Changes

  • Decreased the amount of fire placed by the Fire Boombox. This should help with stutters that players on mobile devices are experiencing.


Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that would cause the health of your killer to be sent after the health on kill was applied
  • Fixed a bug where the killer health message would be sent even if you killed yourself (fall damage, fire, void)
  • Fixed a bug where sometimes TNT could be placed in the world
  • Fixed a bug where the winning screen did not play a sound
  • Fixed a bug that allowed you to damage players while the world was being prepared
  • Fixed a bug that allowed Gravestones to be on fire
  • Fixed a typo with the Blindness Boombox
