Small Change Roundup: January 5th - 11th

This small change roundup features recent changes that weren't covered in individual update posts.

Updates since January 5th, 2024

Treasure Wars

Bed Wars development is going great, and we'll be able to share more soon. In the meantime, we've ported some small quality of life features from Bed Wars to prevent exploits.

  • Implemented block suffocation damage

Developer note: This change was implemented to prevent players from being able to glitch themselves into the floor to hide and stall games. We may tweak this feature based on community feedback.

  • Implemented AFK kick system (Treasure Wars: Mega)

Developer note: This feature has been implemented to combat the increase in players intentionally going AFK to gain XP in Treasure Wars. Whilst the feature is only enabled on Treasure Wars: Mega to begin with, we plan to bring it to other modes in the future, based on feedback.

Survival Games

  • Implemented colored boombox item textures
  • Improved UI for supply drop and grace period notifications

Bugs, translation issues and small features: December 21st, 2022

Below is a non-exhaustive list of these types of changes that have been released in the last ~2-3 weeks. This list does not cover new features that received their own post, such as Winterfest 2022.

Highlighted feature: /language command

You can now change your Hive language setting using the new /language command. Your default language is still determined by the Minecraft in-game language setting, but you can override it by using this command. Your selection is saved, so you don't have to reapply it each time. Most games and hubs support live updating of your language: you won't have to change servers for it to apply.

Additionally to running the command and using the menu, the command also supports language "short names" such as de for German and ja for Japanese for even quicker switching.

Social:

  • Added Mailbot messages informing players of their reward availability when they start and stop boosting the Discord server.
  • Player names in friend request menus are now color coded according to rank.

Hub:

  • Added holograms to Gift Sorting WinterFest microgame to improve accessibility
  • Made mounts immune to fire
  • Re-added WinterFest snowball hit effects from last year
  • Fixed an issue where Quest Store models would turn into Steve models after interacting with the quest master

Arcade:

  • The /quest command now functions the same in hubs and arcade hubs.
  • Prevented players from cheating on Arcade parkour courses by riding other players' mounts
  • Fixed hub games breaking when joining them while riding a mount or an elevator

Murder Mystery:

  • Fixed a cause of "nethering" when the graveyard teleport overlapped with a back-to-hub action

Bugs, translation issues and small features: December 8th, 2022

Below is a non-exhaustive list of these types of changes that have been released in the last week. This list does not cover new features that received their own post, such as Hats now being supported in in-game lobbies.

Social:

  • Players are now alerted if another player's friend list is full when inviting them. The invite itself will still go through.
  • /friend denyall now outputs a single message, rather than "spamming" the chatbox for each denied invite.
  • Friend invite toggle now fully blocks invites from being sent. Previously, the receiving player would not be alerted, but still receive the invite. The toggle now correctly prevents the invite being sent at all.
  • Party invite will now say if you invited an invalid player.

Gifting:

  • Gifts that use the 'entitlement' system (pets, mounts, hats) now correctly prevent duplicate gifting.

Gameplay:

  • Fixed an issue with using bows whilst being teleported.

All games and hubs:

  • Updated a large number of translations. Thanks to community feedback, we keep improving our translations. You can report translation issues on our forums!

Bugs, translation issues and small features: December 1st, 2022

Below is a non-exhaustive list of these types of changes that have been released in the last week. This list does not cover new features that received their own post, such as Hats now being supported in (certain) games.

Network:

  • Fixed various bugs affecting players on Minecraft 1.19.50, including maps/item frames not functioning properly

All games and hubs:

  • Updated a large number of translations. Thanks to community feedback, we keep improving our translations. You can report translation issues on our forums!

Hub and Arcade:

  • When gifting an item to your self, the system now properly checks if you already own that item before continuing
  • You can now gift 1 year of replay pass to players that already have an active pass (stacks infinitely)
  • Note: there is an active bug where the entitlement check for pets, mounts and hats doesn't function correctly, leading to these items being able to be gifted despite the recipient already owning them. This will be addressed in the next update.

Capture the Flag:

  • Fixed TNT not replacing water blocks correctly after exploding 
  • Added setting for customizing store price modifier in Custom Servers

Hide and Seek:

  • Made it impossible to interact with doors to prevent annoying sounds 

Murder Mystery:

  • Made it impossible to interact with fence gates and doors to prevent annoying sounds

Bugs, translation issues and small features: November 24th, 2022

Below is a non-exhaustive list of these types of changes that have been released in the last 2 weeks. This list does not cover new features that received their own post, such as the Just Build: Theme Voting Update.

Network:

  • Added initial support for Minecraft 1.19.50

All games and hubs:

  • Updated a large number of translations. Thanks to community feedback, we keep improving our translations. You can report translation issues on our forums!
  • Fixed an issue where effects like absorption would not correctly show when reapplied
  • Fixed custom block break time rendering for certain newer versions of Minecraft
  • Please note that it can take up to 1 week for newly added translations mentioned below to be available in all supported languages.

SkyWars (Kits):

  • Added translation support for game specific statistics for the lobby stats hologram
  • Fixed Shield Spell users taking environmental damage
  • Fixed fire trails spell ability to be placed on transparent blocks, which made the fire invisible

Hide and Seek:

  • Fixed a bug that prevented lobby skin changes from applying in the live game

Capture the Flag:

  • Fixed a bug which allowed players to ignore water damage by staying in waterlogged blocks
  • Fixed arrows vanishing from offhand after respawning 
  • Fixed a bug that allowed respawning players to speed up flag return process 

Just Build:

  • Fixed an issue where helmet cosmetics would get removed after theme voting stage

The Bridge:

  • Fixed a bug that prevented the game from ending with only 1 player
  • Prevented players from using special items in warmup phase

Murder Mystery:

  • Fixed a bug that prevented players from interacting with a rune box once it has teleported away from its first location

We've been improving our workflows to release bug fixes, translation improvements, and small (quality of life) features faster and more frequently.

Below is a non-exhaustive list of these types of changes that have been released in the last week. This list does not cover new features that received their own post, such as the Hat Gifting Update.

All games and hubs:

  • Updated a large number of translations. Thanks to community feedback, we keep improving our translations. You can report translation issues on our forums!
  • Please note that it can take up to 1 week for newly added translations mentioned below to be available in all supported languages.

GroundWars:

  • Fixed an exploit that allowed players to get up to 80 eggs by storing them in the crafting inventory
  • Added translation support for game-specific statistics for the lobby stats hologram

The Bridge:

  • Fixed a bug that allowed players with slow connections to mine out of the spawn tube
  • Added translation support for game-specific statistics for the lobby stats hologram 

Murder Mystery:

  • Added translations for the innocent hot-cold detector COLD, WARM, HOT
  • Added X Left translation in the UI Bar showing how many innocents are still alive

Just Build:

  • Fixed duplicate themes appearing in the Custom Server choose-theme modal

Survival Games:

  • Added translation support for game-specific statistics for the lobby stats hologram
  • Fixed player trackers working in deathmatch if held when teleported to the deathmatch arena
  • Bow health notifications now correctly account for absorption hearts 

BlockDrop:

  • Added translation support for game-specific statistics for the lobby stats hologram 

Capture the Flag:

  • Added translation support for game-specific statistics for the lobby stats hologram 

Hide and Seek:

  • Added translation support for game-specific statistics for the lobby stats hologram

Treasure Wars:

  • Fixed an issue that would cause progress for quests to win x games of Treasure Wars to sometimes not be counted

We've been improving our workflows to release bug fixes, translation improvements, and small (quality of life) features faster and more frequently.

All games and hubs:

  • Updated a large number of translations. Thanks to community feedback, we keep improving our translations. You can report translation issues on our forums!

DeathRun:

  • Traps that replace blocks will no longer show a Molang error to players with Content Log enabled
  • Better action-bar message for spectators that joined mid-game
  • Lobby statistic hologram now supports translations

Capture The Flag:

  • Fixed a bug that allowed players to purchase items whilst respawning

GroundWars:

  • Fixed a bug that caused the blindness particle trail to have the wrong color

Treasure Wars:

  • Bow health notifications now correctly account for absorption hearts

SkyWars:

  • Fixed a bug that allowed teammates to kill each other in, for example, the Death Tag preset

BlockDrop:

  • Fixed a bug that showed mob effect particles instead of sparkles for the blue sparkles trail

Small Change Roundup: April Edition

Small change roundup number 4! Loads of bug fixes, big and small, to make your life game better!

Updates since March 10th, 2021

Framework (all games)

Bug Fixes

Changes

  • Removed similar letters from Custom Server invite codes

Murder Mystery

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed the 'Boombox' gravestone cosmetics not being granted
  • Fixed a bug that allowed players to get infinite arrows
  • Fix a bug where throwable murderer weapons didn't count towards quests

Hide and Seek

Changes

  • If no hiders have been killed after 90 seconds, we now select a new seeker at random to help (not in Custom Servers)
  • Multiple changes to hiding logic to prevent collisions and out-of-map exploits

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that allowed Seekers to die from drowning in water
  • Fixed a bug when the original seeker leaves the game, a new seeker is always selected, regardless of whether or not there are other seekers already
  • Added full translation to the hider survival message
  • Fixed an exploit that would allow hiders to clip outside the playable area while going solid

DeathRun

Changes

  • For players that have the visibility setting set to invisible, the setting is now temporarily set to visible after finishing the round, so that they can spectate the round

Survival Games

Changes

  • Coral Shrubs can now be broken

Bug Fixes

  • Stopped boomboxes affecting teammates
  • Fixed a bug where Cache Cows took knockback
  • Fixed a bug allowing multiple flares to be thrown

Treasure Wars

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed boombox spamming

Server / Proxy

Certain features may not yet be available on all regions, but will be soon.

Features

  • Added overloads to the global cosmetic (/costume, /title, /avatar) commands. As an example, /costume is used below, but this works for all types
  • Added /costume off to disable the global cosmetic
  • Added /costume search term here to quickly search for a global cosmetic
  • Added a confirmation before friend removal

Changes

  • Various performance improvements

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed drops for Carrots, Potatoes, Wheat, Beetroot, Melon stems, Pumpkin stems
  • Placement of melon seeds and pumpkin seeds now results as seeds and not a stem
  • Fixed water/lava buckets not having sounds when used
  • Fixed water/lava pickup only working on water-logged blocks
  • Fixed an issue where when in creative mode and breaking then placing a block, the block cracking animation would appear on the placed block
  • Carpets can now be placed on any block 
  • Fixed a bug where no search results would appear when searching the exact name of a Hub Title that contains spaces in its name
  • Coloring can no longer be used in party chat

Small Change Roundup: January 8th - March 10th

This is our third small change roundup, where we feature changes not covered in individual update posts. Our main focus recently has been large game updates, replays, and new games, but there are still a bunch of new fixes, changes and features!

Updates since January 8th, 2021

Framework (all games)

Bug Fixes

  • Game unlocks are now always correctly ordered by level

Changes

  • Added a reset button to the top of cosmetic categories
  • Prevented players from joining if they don't have the right resource pack(s) enabled

Murder Mystery

Features

  • Added a toggle AFK kicking setting for custom servers

Treasure Wars

Changes

  • Players can no longer build near shops
  • Players can no longer stand inside shop NPC's
  • Ender Pearls will no longer kill players on teleport, instead, will leave players on at least half a heart (SkyWars-parity)

Bug Fixes

  • Respawning players can no longer break blocks
  • Fixed Custom Server summoners having the wrong default setting
  • Fixed upgrade button message for certain non-English languages
  • Boom boxes are now properly removed at the end of a game

SkyWars

These changes were previously mentioned in various update posts. There are no new changes since those posts.

Features

  • Added Sword of Embers, replacing Fire Sword
  • Added Crumbling Cobblestone

Changes

  • Knockback Nemo now applies vertical knockback, rather than just horizontal

  • Trap glass is no longer consistently red when using the 0 trap cooldown option in Custom Servers

  • The Strafe Cooldown option now uses seconds, rather than game ticks, so it's more clear to players

Server / Proxy

Features

  • Improved locker search - colors are now ignored, making it easier to find multi-colored hub titles
  • Added /rules to view (a summary of) the rules
  • Aligned all Hive Team (paid staff & employees) ranks to show HIVE rather than specific tags.
  • We figured out what H stands for, and as such, helpers now have the HELPER tag
  • Added Micro Surveys to poll players

Changes

  • Multiple Custom Server invites from the same user now appear as one
  • Improved punishment messaging

Bug Fixes

  • Eating food once again shows the right particles across all supported versions of Minecraft
  • Various changes to prevent 'Steve Glitch'

Small Change Roundup: December 17th 2020 - January 8th 2021

This is our second small change roundup, where we feature changes not covered in individual update posts. Please note that this roundup includes multiple holidays, on which the company was closed. It also spans the New Years update/event, which is not included in this post.

Framework

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where when trying to teleport to players that had died/logged off as a spectator, it would teleport you to a random player

Treasure Wars

Changes

  • Introduced a new SkyWars-style play area system, which stops players camping over the build height, and below the minimum play height

Fixes

  • Fixed Rainbow Swirls Treasure Particles
  • Modified Play Region logic to allow for "Clutch Pearls" again

Hide and Seek

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where Hiders could remain hidden by jumping onto the edge of an adjacent block

Murder Mystery

Survival Games

Changes

  • Added support for 100 player (solo mode) custom servers

Server / Proxy

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where some unlocks would not be searchable as their name contained spaces
  • Fixed an issue where shift opening a door would be desync'd allowing the player opening the door to walk through it
  • Fire damage now properly penetrates armor over time (vanilla parity)
  • Vines are now destroyed if there is not a vine above, or the direction is not the same
  • Vines can now only be placed on solid blocks
  • Buckets no longer place 'ghost liquid' in certain scenarios
  • Fixed off-hand not being cleared in certain games/scenarios

Changes

  • Added /queue help [page]: a command that lists all the games that are queue-able along with their aliases in a nice paged message list
  • Added support for new Persona format (this allows the usage of, for example, the free Character Creator items from the Creator Celebration)
