Sunsetting our legacy sectors

Back in early 2024, we launched our revamped industry classifications to better reflect the whole economy. Since then, its coverage has grown even further and now covers 6.7m companies in the UK (100 times the coverage of our old sector classification!) and a further 1.5m in Germany. And we’ve not stopped there — we recently released specific new industries to cover the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy classification of the IS-8, which has had great response from our public sector clients.

With these milestones met, it’s time to start saying goodbye to our old faithful legacy sector classification system. This is to avoid confusion in the platform and to focus our energy on improving the rest of our data and platform features.

Don’t worry, most of you will be unaffected by this change. The majority already use our new and improved industry classifications, so you won’t experience any changes. For those who are using the old system, we’ll reach out directly to support your migration.

Timelines

Step 1: From September 30th 2025, we will stop adding legacy sector classifications to companies and will begin the process of removing them from company pages and other parts of the platform.

Step 2: October 2025 - May 2026 - We will keep returning sectors in Exports, Collection auto-add criteria, and the API to avoid any breaking changes but we advise starting to move any remaining workloads over to our new Industry classification to keep the freshest, most accurate, and highest coverage data. To help provide time for a smooth transition we will guarantee support for returning sectors in these remaining resources until May 31st 2026. NB: Any collections that may still be using sectors after this date will have their auto-add disabled.

If you have any questions about this change or would like support in migration, please use the “Need Help?” button in the platform or get in touch with your account manager and we will be happy to help.

Same actions, better placement

We’ve streamlined how you work with Advanced Search results on the platform.

Always-accessible actions

  • ‘Export results to CSV’ and ‘Save results to a collection’ are now pinned in a sticky bar at the bottom of your results screen.
  • You’ll also always see the total number of results right there for quick reference.

Save templates to get started quickly

Saved searches are now called templates, because they act as a reusable starting point for your frequent searches. Templates can be accessed from the header, at the top of the page.

Save as a collection to leverage the power of auto-add, activity alerts, and collaboration

As a reminder: Saving companies to a collection isn’t just a static list - it keeps working for you:

  • 💡 Dynamic updates: As new companies match your saved criteria, they’ll be added automatically.
  • ⏰ Timely activity alerts: Get notified when companies in your collection raise funding, change leadership, or other events you care about.
  • 👀 Collaborative features: Keep all your lists in one place, ready to review or share with your colleagues so you can work together.

Create your tailored list

Run an Advanced Search to generate results you can keep leveraging over time.

Natural Language Search in Advanced Search

Search like a human. Results like a pro.

We’re excited to introduce Natural Language Search in Advanced Search, making it easier and faster to find the companies that matter to you.

Now, instead of manually building complex filters, you can simply type what you're looking for in your own words. The builder will interpret your query and return a structured set of results.

This update is designed to make discovery faster, easier, and more intuitive - whether you’re a power user or just getting started.

  • Faster discovery: Speed up early searches, going from idea to an initial set of results immediately.
  • Reduce friction: No need to learn the filter structure before starting, just express your search in your own words.

💡 How does it work?

With Natural Language Search, you can now describe your ideal company in plain English. The builder will do the work of translating your request into relevant search criteria.

For example, you can try:

  • “East Midlands companies in the life sciences industry”
  • “Software companies with over 50 employees and 10% turnover growth”
  • “Financial services companies that have raised funding in the past year”

We’ll return companies that match your criteria, which you can refine further using the Advanced Search builder.

✅ Fields currently supported

Natural Language Search currently supports phrases relating to:

  • Location
  • Industries and buzzwords
  • Descriptive keywords
  • Funding received - amount and date
  • Financials, including turnover and EBITDA
  • Employee count
  • Director age

…and more.

What’s next? We’re just getting started. Coming soon: More supported fields for even broader coverage.

🎯 Try it now

Just head to the Advanced Search search page and start typing your query.

Start searching for companies

📣 Help shape what comes next - Your feedback is invaluable. Book a quick call with our product team to share ideas or suggest fields you'd like added.

๐Ÿ“ˆ You asked. We delivered. Expanded Acquisition Coverage by 75%

We’re now identifying around 75% more acquisitions every month — including much stronger coverage of PE buyouts.

What’s new?

  1. Identify all acquisitions announced in the press — even if the company hasn’t hit another Signal
  2. We continue to identify and track companies post-acquisition — we’ve lifted our general “ceased tracking” rule
  3. Backfilled timelines — we’ve added historic acquisitions for previously ceased tracking companies

Why it matters

Acquisitions are powerful triggers. More coverage means you can:

  • Find companies undergoing strategic change.
  • Find people making pivotal career moves.
  • Win opportunities at exactly the right moment.
  • Monitor portfolios for exits or buy-side trends.
  • Report impact through successful M&A and PE Buyout activity

We’re not just adding more acquisitions — we’re combining them with rich company data to help you move faster, spot opportunities, and stay ahead.
