Introducing postcode search

We have added even more ways to dig into company location data to discover and understand the businesses most relevant to you.

Search across postcode fragments

You can now search across the following postcode formats

  • Full Postcode (HG4 1QT)
  • Postcode sector (e.g HG4 1)
  • Postcode district (e.g HG4)
  • Postcode area (HG)

You could use postcode fragments to better understand districts within regions such as Manchester’s Northern Quarter (M1 &  M4)

Or even use an exact postcode to find all companies operating in a specific office block.

Search within a radius of a postcode

You can also search within a radius of a specific postcode which can be helpful if you want to learn more about companies near a place of interest or economic centre not well defined by existing district data.

These features work across all our address types including the new trading and registered address search we added recently. (See here if you missed that announcement). They can also be combined with all existing search criteria you are used to.

Check out the latest options by selecting the “Location” criteria in Advanced Search.

Share network connections across your subscription

If you've got access to the Beauhurst Networks add-on, then you should already be aware that you can mark people across the high-growth space as known to you. 👓 Understand previously hidden connections

📈 Expand the number of warm leads available

💪 Pick out the strongest line of approach

Understanding a connection

Wherever you see a person attached to a tracked company around the platform you’ll also see if you or your colleagues are connected to them. The hollow network symbol shows when your closest connection is via a colleague’s network

Click on a person’s profile to see how you are connected to them. As your network grows, you may often find you are connected to individuals through multiple colleagues and intermediate connections. We visualise this to help you cut through the complexity and find the most valuable way to make first contact.

Search across connections

You can also leverage your expanded network using Advanced Search in combination with any other search criteria to help you narrow down target companies, people, funds, and more, to those that someone in your business has an existing relationship with.

Build out your network

Building out your network on Beauhurst is now more valuable than ever as both you and your colleagues benefit each other.

Quickly add similar companies to collections

Last month we released an improved algorithm for finding similar companies. Now you can easily add these companies to your collection without having to click into each company profile. This will help you save time whether you are building a list of prospects, keeping an eye on your client’s competitors or just looking for another way to find interesting companies.

Search over trading & registered addresses

Following feedback from subscribers, we’ve added new criteria to allow you to search over different types of business address.

Understand activity in your region

By default, location searches will show you companies by their head office address. If the head office is not known, registered addresses will be used in its place. (Note that all our tracked companies will have a head office assigned.)

Because this matches our previous location search functionality, any searches or collections you already have set up will be preserved.

However, you may be looking for a more precise view of economic activity in your area. The new search criteria means you can hone in on companies that are trading from your region:

You could even use this criteria to find companies that operate specifically in one region (and therefore may be looking to expand):

Or, maybe you’re looking to find businesses that have no presence in your region, who may be looking to relocate:

We’ve also updated custom exports, so you can choose which of the different address types to export to your spreadsheets for analysis.

Clearer location categories

We’ve also updated our display of locations on Company Profiles and the location dropdown, so it’s clearer and easier to understand the different areas you can search over—from local authorities, to counties and LEPs.

Try out the new criteria on Advanced Search and let us know what you think!

New gender and age insights

If you have access to our Networks add-on, you’ll see we’ve added some new search criteria and charts to the platform. Read on to find out about these valuable new insights into demographics.

Reach out to female-led businesses

We’ve added new criteria to Advanced Search that allows you to find companies according to the gender balance of their directors, founders, or key people.

Perhaps you are looking to build your contact list for an event, or a diversity and inclusion initiative—for example, you might be looking for companies with all female founders:

Or, you might be looking to partner with companies with gender-balanced leadership teams:

The gender balance for directors, founders, and key people can be found in the company criteria menu of Advanced Search.

Report on gender diversity across cohorts of companies

The gender balance chart allows you to understand the makeup of the companies you’re looking at through Advanced Search, Collections, and Explore.

For example, you might want to use the chart in Collections to investigate the gender balance of your portfolio companies—comparing directors, founders, or key people.

If you have access to our All Company Data add-on,  you’ll be able to understand director demographics across all companies—not just tracked ones. And as with the majority of charts on Beauhurst, you can export to png to add to your reports, or to CSV for further analysis.

Understand leadership teams in your region or industry

The new gender divide chart will show you the gender of the founders, directors, and key people at the companies in your space. You might be looking to find out more about business owners in your area: combine an advanced search with this chart and you can instantly understand how many business owners in your area are male or female:

Percentage of tracked company founders by gender in the London borough of Wandsworth

Or, perhaps you’re investigating a traditionally male-dominated industry and you’d like to see whether the gender-split of directors has changed over time:

Percentage of directors by gender in the banking SIC codes

Compare director ages across industries

Finally, we’ve added a chart to give insight into director age brackets. You might be interested to use this in Explore to compare and contrast the age breakdowns across industries, and how this has changed over time:

Check out these new insights in Advanced Search, Explore, and Collections. And as ever, let us know how you find these new additions!

Job Retention Scheme data now available on Beauhurst

New data has been added to Beauhurst to show which UK companies have claimed money—and how much—through the Job Retention Scheme to support workers on furlough. The data covers December 2020 onwards, and over 700,000 companies across the UK have made claims since then.

You’ll be able to use this data to better understand how companies have been affected by the pandemic. If a company is tracked by Beauhurst, you’ll get an even clearer picture with our COVID-19 statuses.

You can get a quick overview of every claim a company has made in the Basic Details tab of the company profile.

Or, perhaps you’d like to see a list of every company that claimed over a certain amount over a specific time period - you can use the “Job Retention Scheme claims” criteria in Advanced Search for this:

If you want to take this data offline to work with, you can export all of the claims a company has made to a CSV file from Advanced Search, Collections, or the CSV button on a company profile.

The government updates the data monthly, covering claims made up to two months before the date of publication. If you want to learn more about the government’s data, you can find it here.

New Similar Companies algorithm

Our Machine Learning team has made some improvements to the Similar Companies tab on tracked company profiles.

With this new set of changes, the list will show closer matches to the company you’re looking at—with the added bonus of a snappier loading time.

Previously, the Similar Companies list was based on matching sectors, buzzwords, and description words. But because of the simplistic word matching, this sometimes led to less relevant companies being matched. The improved tool uses a machine learning language model to understand and match meanings of descriptions. For example, a company that “builds software for drug discovery” and a company that “provides computational chemistry solutions for pharmacology research” will now be matched: although there are no common words, these companies operate in the same space.

This update has resulted in a significant improvement in the relevance of companies in the Similar Companies list. If you see a company that you don’t think is similar, you can tap the “Not similar” button to the right of the company in the list to continually improve the algorithm.

New SIC code, sector, and buzzword ranking chart

Following user feedback, we’ve replaced our sector ranking chart with a customisable breakdown on Advanced Search, Collections, and Explore. This new chart ranks sectors, buzzwords, and SIC code groups, allowing you to run top-level analysis in just a few clicks.

Less time in spreadsheets—phew!

Previously, many of our subscribers had to export data offline in order to answer questions about their region. In particular, users with access to our All Company Data add-on needed a quicker way to report on SIC codes, rather than just the sectors for our core companies. You can now do this straight away from Advanced Search and Explore:

Percentage (raw) of companies per SIC code group for companies in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly LEP

As with other charts on the platform, you can export the chart of your choice to a .png or .csv file—perfect for adding to your presentations and reports.

Which industries are powering your local economy?

You can also gain deeper insight into your local economy by choosing ranking metrics such as percentage of companies, total turnover, or total employee count.

Using these options, you can find out which industry in your region is the top employer, or which has the highest turnover, in order to inform your decision making:

Sector ranking for companies in Oxford, by total turnover and total employee count

Showcase your portfolio and expertise

Using this new chart on your Collections means reporting on your portfolio is easier than ever. Perhaps you’d like to showcase your strengths, and back this up with data.

Or perhaps you have a large client base and want to find out where the untapped opportunities lie, by taking a look at underrepresented industries.

New Dashboard

You might have noticed our shiny new dashboard! This new version is more tailored to your activity on the platform, and allows you to bridge the gap between our analysis and yours.

Shareable blogs and reports

The new Latest From Beauhurst panel showcases our latest blogs and reports. New blogs will be posted weekly, meaning you can effortlessly keep up to date with trending topics. Feel free to repost our content to your socials to start conversations with your customers and boost engagement!

We often receive questions about the data and searches that power our blogs. So, each post on the dashboard will include links to pre-filled advanced searches, so you can see how we conducted the analysis, and further explore the organisations and transactions featured.

Stay up to date with news and transactions

Our feed of recent news and transactions is still available, with a fresh look and feel. Many of our subscribers scroll through this feed at the start of the day to keep up to date with all the latest deal activity.

News headlines link to original source articles, so you can gain more context, and transactions link to transaction pages, so you can delve deeper into the deals.

Pick up where you left off

The Recently Viewed panel is based on the profiles, collections and saved searches you last accessed, meaning you can easily pick up where you left off.

Perhaps you work on your collection of portfolio companies regularly—this will now be linked for the next time you log on. Or maybe you just need a reminder of the company you were last looking at before your lunch break.
