Equation Editor! 🧮

Math teachers, we've been plotting something just for you!

You can now add equations in Gimkit. Select from hundreds of symbols to build math questions and answers in your kits.

Get ready to divide distance and time, too. Our equation editor has keyboard shortcuts so you can type in things like "pi" to quickly pull up the Pi symbol.

When it comes to math questions, there are now 11 things you can always count on. Your fingers and Gimkit!

Welcome To SNOWBRAWL

Welcome To SNOWBRAWL

Snowbrawl is here, our new battle-style 2D game mode.

With this mode, we’re introducing a brand new mechanic: combat! Students can now launch snowballs at each other! This changes everything for 2D modes.

Since there's a whole new mechanic in this mode, we kept the rest simple. Students run around a beautiful-but-perilous winter wonderland answering questions and trying to knock out other players. Oh, they’ll want to avoid getting pelted too!

Bundle up & have a blast! ❄️💥

Frostbite - LIVE EVENT TODAY!

Frostbite - LIVE EVENT TODAY!

Today is the day. Frostbite is here!

If you'd like to join, be in-game at 1pm EST. The event will start then, so make sure everybody gets into the game ahead of time. You’ll load into the event by hosting any of our 2D game modes.

Here are some tips:

  • This event might cause our servers to become overloaded, so we recommend arriving early! Start hosting a game as early as 30 minutes before (12:30pm EST) and you’ll be good to go for the event. While you all wait, your class gets to play whichever mode you picked: Fishtopia, Capture The Flag, Tag: Domination, or Farmchain!
  • Make sure your sound is on! We know some of you turn music & sound off, but make sure it’s on for this event!

So excited - see you later today!

To increase server capacity & help ensure everything runs smoothly today, Gimkit will be slightly different. Here's what you need to know:

  • If you’re playing a live game between 12:00pm EST - 12:30pm EST, you might get kicked out as we make server space for the event.
  • Students will be unable to work on assignments on the day of the event. After the event, we’ll re-enable assignments again.
  • Non-2D game modes will be disabled on the day of the event. These will be re-enabled after the event.
  • Spectator Mode will be disabled on the day of the event, meaning you will experience the event with your students too! Spectator Mode will be re-enabled after the event.
  • Students will be unable to host live games on the day of the event but will be able to after the event.

Frostbite - Live Event!

As winter approaches, prepare yourself for Gimkit Frostbite, a one-time-only in-game event! Attend the event with your students and experience a storm that will cause Gimkit to change…forever.

This is a one-time event, so make sure to be in-game on December 5th at 1pm EST. The event will start then, so make sure everybody gets into the game a few minutes before. You’ll load into the event by hosting any of our 2D game modes.

Here are some tips for the day of the event:

  • This event might cause our servers to become overloaded, so we recommend arriving early! Start hosting a game as early as 30 minutes before (12:30pm EST) and you’ll be good to go for the event. While you all wait, your class gets to play whichever mode you picked: Fishtopia, Capture The Flag, Tag: Domination, or Farmchain!
  • Make sure your sound is on! We know some of you turn music & sound off, but make sure it’s on for this event!

We’re super excited for you all to experience the event. Stay warm & we’ll see you soon!

To increase server capacity & help ensure everything runs smoothly on the day of the event, Gimkit will be slightly different. Here are some changes you might want to know about.

Farmchain -- new game mode!

Welcome to Farmchain, our new collaborative 2D game mode!

Here on the farm, everyone has a role to play. There’s a lot of work to be done. To keep things running efficiently, students will need to make a plan, communicate, and keep up with their jobs.

Best of luck and see you out on the farm! 🚜

This Or That!

And now for something completely different!

This or That is a trivia battle game that makes for a great icebreaker to help your students get to know each other.

This mode is perfect for Would You Rather Questions, Polls, Does This Apply To You, and (of course) Trivia.

Unlike other Gimkit game modes, you won’t connect a kit or even add questions inside of Gimkit. Instead, you’ll use your own trivia or icebreaker questions with this fun 2D voting system.

Once the game is started, just share a question and assign a color, red or blue, to two possible answers. Ask Students to move their Gims to one side or the other.

Use the Freeze Players button to lock students’ answers. The award & ghost buttons give you the option to eliminate incorrect answers and reward students who nailed it.

This Or That is available for a limited time until November 4th. Have fun getting to know each other and testing your knowledge!

👋 Welcome Back!

We hope you had a wonderful, relaxing summer.

We're excited to share some big updates to help you make learning fun & engaging this year. Watch the video below or keep reading to see what's new!

Assignments go 2D  🙌

We rebuilt assignments from the ground up! You can now assign 2D game modes as homework, making assignments more dynamic and engaging.

There's a lot that's different with the new version of assignments. Read about everything we changed here.

Answer Review 🧐

Over the summer, we added our most-requested product suggestion of all time. Now, your students automatically see the correct answer for 3 seconds when they miss a question. This improves content mastery by slowing them down and giving them some time to soak in the correct answer.

We’re growing a new mode… 🌱

We’re working on a new game mode we think your students will dig. We’re not ready to say too much yet. Just planting a seed to see if any ideas sprout up…

From new assignments to new modes, we can't wait to see what you do with Gimkit this school year!

Tidbits 🧩

Gimkit is free! — In case you missed it, we made Gimkit free last November. You can play Gimkit for free with as many students as you want and there are no limits on the number of kits you can create.

Nickname generator — You can now enable a nickname generator when hosting a live game, forcing students to use a classroom-safe nickname. Learn more here.

Practice Mode — Want students to be able to practice content whenever they want? Send students a practice link for any of your kits! Upon visiting, students can practice answering the questions for as long as they’d like! Learn more here.

Cosmetics are back! — The Item Shop and earning XP/GimBucks returns August 23rd. We’ve got some awesome new Gims coming your way, as well as a new kind of cosmetic!

GiveKit — We donate $500 every month to help pay for your school materials, first aid kits, tech tools, furniture, and anything else you may need to do your best work. Learn more and apply here.

Nickname Generator! 🎰

Are your students joining your live games with inappropriate names? No problem!

Turn on our new Nickname Generator while setting up your game to keep things clean.

Instead of entering a name when joining, students will be assigned a safe, auto-generated nickname!
